What’s in a square? (2)

A few more trips up and down Dulwich Road offered up new possible content (see What’s in a square? for earlier ideas).

Not going to be easy but I’d like to include a nod to the small shops, cafes and businesses on the left side of Dulwich Road leading towards Herne Hill from Brixton. They include K&J Audio, Bass Place, Morbleu, Utter Waffle and Danny DaCosta Photography. I’ll need to think long and hard about how to do that.

These monsters take up a lot of space along the road opposite Brockwell Lido, and deserve to be represented.

There are two of these tall pipes along the road. For a long time I thought they were siren posts from World War 2, kept as a memorial. An entirely made up story that I happily told my children. Their real purpose, I know now, is to release noxious gases from the River Effra that runs underground along the length of Dulwich Road. The pipe bases are not in the best of repair and I’d like to get a sense of that if I include them.

Just a few front gardens along from the BLM hedge is the Archsmiths shelter, full of books. I’ve never seen anyone use it, but it’s always been there.
