St Jude’s Detail – FINAL

The spaceships are banished and the smallest church window now sits nicely in this gentle square. I’m glad I stuck with different shades for window and radiating lines as it adds a little pep. And I am utterly relieved that I made the square using intarsia rather than stranded work. Just had to be careful not to pull too tight when binding yarns as a single contrast stitch can easily disappear with too much tension.

I now have the blueprint for designing and knitting squares for other St Jude’s windows. I’ll make at least one and maybe more, depending on how the colour balance develops across the whole blanket.

The little window of this finished square is top left. To its right is the window I will certainly make using the same approach to design. The three underneath are in a line along the main part of the church and I just noticed they’re all different. Only took 35 years of living here. (Now obsessed with church design; looking for details and quirks whenever I pass one.) I’d like to feature at least one and preferably all three of the lower windows, perhaps diverting from the current design to make the windows smaller and fit them on one square. If I can avoid making spaceships, of course. I’d also like to incorporate the carved quatrefoil stone design in the top left picture (just looked up ‘trefoil with four foils’).

Looking forward to all of that after I’ve played around with one or two greens.

The pdf has all the information needed to knit this square.
