Brockwell Park in Summer – FINAL

Here are the colours of our poor thirsty park in the hot, dry July of 2026. Weak greens and straw of parched grass, floofy seed heads and searing blue sky, with only the path and pine trees unchanged beneath it.

The square was so much fun to design and knit, and I’m happy that it’s pretty too. Now I have a template for the park in spring, autumn and winter. Each will have their own colours reflected, with yellow daffodils in spring, fallen leaves in the autumn and sparkling frost in winter. I know, I know, I’ve said this before, but I’m just so pleased after the failure of the first idea for the seasonal park.

Here again are the photos that I used for colour reference. When I was trying out stitches for the square, one question was whether to include more blue, as a big sky is so much part of the experience of the park. But a large section of textured knitting with the blue yarn wasn’t satisfying and I decided instead to interleave it with the pine green and path grey. It’s also better this way as the sky in other seasons may not be this colour, and a large section might then disappear into a misery of pale. This way, a silver-blue sky can emerge nicely from the pine.

The pdf has all the information needed to knit this square, including advice to weave in threads as you go, because many are cut off. I seriously urge you to do this. It’s quickly done on the way up, and no pain at the end.

A particularly beautiful square. This is a great template for seasonal colors. Well done.
