Yes, it’s Mondrian to the rescue.
Following the failed moquette, my search for an abstract method of hinting at the buses brought me to a forgotten blocky intarsia in Jan Eaton’s 200 Knitted Blocks for Blankets, Throws and Afghans. I didn’t want to follow that, but it immediately brought to mind Mondrian’s genius complex-simple layouts and the potential in them for a striking representation of our buses using the key colours of bright red, black, grey and white.
I’ve already designed the square and it features three red rectangles, each one indicating one of our buses: the diagonal sweep of glass on the front and back of the 3, the simple black-stripe display of the 322’s number, and the larger number-on-black midway up the 196 (also on the 37, so no need for a fourth bus block).



Though I say it myself, the chart is looking good and this should be a quick knit.
